The Catstone on the Hill of Uisneach is said to be the mystical center of Ireland, the gateway to the fifth province “Meath” where all four provinces come together or the “omphalos” (Delphi) or navel of Ireland.

The hill was an important site for Druidical ceremonies especially the Bealtaine. In the Lebor Gabála Érenn (Book of the Takings of Ireland) a colllection of poems first written in 11th century the Nemedian Druid Mide lit the first Bealtaine fire here.

Uisneach was the seat of the high kings of Ireland in the times before they resided at the Hill of Tara. See the list of the Kings of Uisneach.
