The Shiva Lingam of Amarnath is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for the hindu god Shiva.

Because of their phallic male form Lingams are seen to represent the archetypally male principle. The Shiva Lingam of Amarnath is an ice stalagmite that grows and shrinks with the moon phases in a cave near Baltal, Kashmir, India. At full moon the lingam expands to its largest size and on new moon day it is smallest. This phenomenon is regarded as the living presence of Shiva.

Mount Kailsh is the mythological seat and home of Lord Shiva, the destroyer of ignorance and illusion, resides at the summit of Mount Kailash. It lies near the source of some of the longest rivers in Asia: the Indus River, the Sutlej River (a major tributary of the Indus River), the Brahmaputra River, and the Karnali River (a tributary of the River Ganga). It is considered a sacred place in four religions: Bön, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism.
