Cotopaxi is an active stratovolcano in the Andes Mountains, located about 50 km south of Quito the capital of Ecuador with a population of 2 million people. Cotopaxi`s height is 5,897 m which makes it one of the highest volcanoes in the world. Quito as the highest capital in the world is located at 2850 m altitude. Because the volcano is covered with ice eruptions are highly dangerous because the melting of the ice can bring extreme floods even to the capital Quito. According to the wiki article the name Cotopaxi could mean “Neck of the Moon” in an indigenous language. Cotopaxi has been worshipped as the “rain sender” that provides the fertility of the land. Since 1738 Cotopaxi has erupted more than 50 times with the last major eruption in 1877. The eruption of Cotapaxi on 14 August 2015 was the first in 40 years.

The Eruption of Cotopaxi Volcano in Astrogeography : coordinates for field levels 1,2 and 3

Astrogeographic position for field level 1 which describes the global importance of Cotopaxi`s position in the region of northern Ecuador: because of the intensity of it`s eruptions Cotopaxi is of high global importance. The volcano is located at 18° of air sign Gemini and 16° of fire sign Aries.

Astrogeographic position for field level 2 which describes how the whole mountain is embedded in the region: the whole mountain of Cotopaxi is right in the centre of highly defensive, solid water sign Scorpio the sign of the underworld and together with the lava indicatin fire signs Sagittarius and Leo the most important indicator for the largest and most dangerous volcanoes. In regard to hardness of rocks Scorpio is next to earth sign Capricorn the indicator for the second most hardest rock and as such for a comparatively solid structure of the mountain around the volcanic pipe. The second coordinate of Cotopaxi is located in comparatively instable, pliable air sign Libra the sign of doors, openings in rocks and indicator for the canal (volcanic pipe) which like a gate serves to release the tension from movements of the magma below. The combination of a particularly hard and solid sign like Scorpio with a rather pliable one like Libra can be understood as like the function of a stopcock which regulates the release of pressure.

Astrogeographic position for field level 3 which describes the crater area at the summit of Cotopaxi: For field level 3 which describes how the peak and crater area is embedded into the whole of the mountain both coordinates are located in tendencially open, pliable air sign Libra the sign of opening up, doors and windows. One of the coordinates is located right in the centre of Libra and one in the first degrees of Libra right next to the cardinal divide between Libra and earth sign Virgo. The crater as the end of the volcanic pipe is so to be seen as located as a place of “natural instability” surrounded by more solid types of rock.

The eruption of Cotopaxi on 14 August 2015:

Reports on the website of thewatchers.adorraeli.com “There were at least three eruptions registered on August 14, the first at 09:30, second at 15:15 UTC and third at 19:10 UTC, according to Washington VAAC. Volcanic ash reached an estimated altitude of 15.2 km (50 000 feet) by the end of the UTC day. Highways, homes and cars near the volcano were coated in ash.”

The first eruption of Cotopaxi on 14 August 2015, 9:30 occurred within 20 minutes before the exact moment of the New Moon at 21° Leo

Apart from the transits of the outer planets in relation to the astrogeographic coordinates of the volcano which because of their slower movements are always the indicators for the longer lasting, stronger and globally important events there are two acute transits which I want to mention here. First one is of course the New Moon Event which means the conjunction and concentration of the Sun and the Moon as the two strongest factors for gravitation on earth except the earth itself.  The Sun and the Moon in conjunction were tearing the liquids like magma and water to the north-east direction of the volcano in the moment of eruption. This is how the stopcock function of Cotopaxi was triggered  and the cap on top of the volcanic pipe opened through the New Moon Event.

The second transit was Jupiter`s change of signs vom Leo to Virgo 3 days before the event which although it may seem of lesser importance can not be excluded as to have effected a shift of balances in regard to the stability of the situation below Cotopaxi. Firstly because the eruption ocurred so close to the Virgo ingress. Secondly because Jupiter as the ruler of fire sign Sagittarius the sign of the so called “hell” or “cleansing fires” is a major indicator for magma. Thirdly because Jupiter entered into a sign of tension (square) to Gemini which is one of the astrogeographic coordinates of Cotopaxi. And finally because Jupiter entered into Virgo whose ruler Chiron at 20° Pisces was in a square position to the coordinate of Cotopaxi at 18° Gemini.

The transits of the outer planets

The New Moon constellation of Sun & Moon at 21° of fire sign Leo occured in a trine with Uranus`s transit position at 20°  of fire sign Aries only 4° away from the astrogeographic position of Cotopaxi at 16° Aries for field level 1. All 3 fire signs but particularly Leo and Sagittarius are natural indicators for lava and magma along with water sign Scorpio which represents the aspect of fire in regard to water. The trine is an aspect which is to be judged as supporting the release of pressure from the area below the volcano here. And even more so as the New Moon constellation was placed in house 11 the house of explosions directly describing  the “blowout”. Uranus the main astrological indicator for explosions and as the significator of Aquarius the sign of the sky is another intense indicator here for the discharge of ash clouds into the stratosphere. Uranus has been transiting the position of Cotopaxi since June/July 2013 (first tranist climax at 12° Aries) and will continue to do so at least until April 2016 when he will reach the 20° Aries position.

Pluto`s current transit of the square position to Cotopaxi had its first climax in April 2014 from 13° Capricorn and will continue to be in an intensely dramatic square position  at least until October 2018 at 18° Capricorn. Because the Uranus transit over the place ocurred before Pluto`s it can be hoped that a lot off the tension is being released during his “stay over Cotopaxi”. This could possibly even indicate that the transit of Pluto alone – because he is a ruler of the Cotapaxi coordinates for field level 2  (Scorpio + Libra)- will rather lead to solidification of the material after April 2016.

The future climaxes of the current aspects of tension for the astrogeographic coordinates of Cotopaxi

Jupiter`s transit over 18° Virgo in exact square to the 18° Gemini position has 3 climax dates: one will be around 12 November 2015, one around 5 March 2016 and the last one around July 13 2016. The current phase of the process below and on top of Cotopaxi should therefore be seen as to last at least until Summer 2016 from this point of view.

But yet another transit is near which should also be considered as of the potential of the highest intensity:  Saturn`s transit in Sagittarius over the exact opposition to the Cotopaxi coordinate at 18° Gemini initiated from February 2016 at 15° Sagittarius with its first climax at 16° Sagittarius on 25 March 2016 and Saturn`s final transit over 18° Sagittarius between December 2016 and August 2017.
