Cassadaga (a Seneca Indian word meaning “Water beneath the rocks”) is a small unincorporated community located in Volusia County, Florida. Cassadaga allegedly is a candidate for the title of the “Psychic Capital of the World” because of it`s supposedly large number of professional psychic counsellors. A comparatively more realistic candidate for the title of a Psychic World Capital particularly in terms of quantity of psychics (certainly among many others) would be Haridwar, U.P., India.
The Cassadaga Spiritual Camp was founded by George P. Colby a famous trance medium from Pike, New York referred to as the “seer of spiritualism”. Colby attended summer Spiritualist Camp meetings at Lily Dale, New York a town adjacent to Cassadaga, New York. Colby worked with several spirit guides who would give him information. One of his spirit guides was an Indian named Seneca, who instructed him to travel to a place called the Blue Springs Landing, near Orange City, Florida where Colby founded the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association on 18 Dec 1894. The name was changed to The City of Light in 1903 and finally to Lily Dale Assembly in 1906. The purpose of the Lily Dale Community is to further the science, philosophy, & religion of Spiritualism. Lily Dale became the largest center of the Spiritualist movement during that early era and has been able to play an important role until today. Other communities such as Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp (Florida) and Camp Chesterfield (Indiana) were founded on similar principles and are still active organizations.

Camp Chesterfield
Camp Chesterfield was founded in 1891and is the home of the Indiana Association of Spiritualists, located in Chesterfield, Indiana. Camp Chesterfield offers Spiritualist Church services, seminary, and mediumship, faith healing, and spiritual development classes, as well as psychic readings for patrons.
In 2002, the camp was designated a historic district, the “Chesterfield Spiritualist Camp District”, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
